Paint stripping and house painting New Town

Posted on 10 April 2015

In this article you will be able to see one more of Aponia Painting Services’ marvels! Here our team of painters completely stripped off previously painted surfaces on a dwelling in New Town, Tasmania. The crux of this project was to remove the paint while preventing any lead from leaking into the environment.

In order to remove the paint containing lead, we have used a product called Peel Away 8. Basically, the peel Away paste was applied in a thick layer and then covered with waxed sheets. With this done, the chemicals were sealed which prevented drying of the paste hence allowing Peel Away “melt” the paint and capture the lead in a moist environment. It is important to note that any dry lead in a working environment is a health hazard and locking the lead within a moist agent is the way to go when removing this dangerous element.

As mentioned previously, the process of stripping did involve a few more procedures, in case that you are reading this article to find out “how to steps” for stripping paint please refer to the manufacturer instructions how to use the product of your choice!

After the ghastly paint was removed, and with honesty I must confess it was a gigantic and tedious but necessary process, the weatherboards were covered with oil base undercoat in order to prevent any tannins discolouring the top layers of paint. Lastly, surfaces were painted with two coats of Dulux Weathershield Duck.

For this project the management at Aponia would like to give a special mention to Tommy – our painter, thank you for the fantastic and meticulous attention to detail on this project!

You can have a look at our clip that depicts the process of revamping this previously tired looking home into a stunning modern dwelling that will withstand many years to come!
